Stories Made Me a Millionaire
With my business, for 25 years, all of our sales literature and presentations were designed around stories of other people and personal stories so the potential buyer could relate. It took me three years to make my first million dollars after being bankrupt. Great training ground for a novelist. I have not made a million dollars yet from my writing, but I’m going to give it a shot.
Stories Made My First Business/Self Help Book
I wrote 30,000 words for my first business self-help book. I was pretty proud. That is a lot of work. I thought it was a good start on my book but with no real stories. My son who is a Harvard Law graduate told me, you need stories. So, I started over.
The first story I found from a reference. I interviewed by phone the owner of a plant nursery in Houston. He told me he started as a very poor, minimum wage yard man. He had no money. But his friends all put in what they could as a loan to him. It was a total of $15,000. Seven years later he got an unsolicited offer for $9,500,000. Today it is worth $15-$20,000,000. It is a great story, inspirational and instructional. I went on to collect 18 more stories and wrote the principles I learned from the stories in my book. Every day businesses, started by everyday people, make people millionaires all day long. You don’t need a great idea or your own money, plus there is a lot of free help. This led to One Million in the Bank: How To Make $1,000,000 With Your Own Business, Even If You Have No Money Or Experience (7 awards)
My Novels
I backed into novel writing, Kill Crime. My wife has Parkinson’s disease, so I had time to write as I cared for her. My first novel, Kill Crime has been a blast writing. My advice to everyone who is trying to write a novel is to just write. What an experience, and what a feeling of accomplishment. Just write, fix it later. No one will ever look at you the same once you write and publish a book, I guarantee it. Now, I am a full-time novelist; you can too if you want.
Coming Up
I plan to write at least two novels a year. Maybe I’ll try a screenplay too.
